Get it while it’s hot folks: P3droid and the Team Black Hat have released the supposed OTA for the Droid X getting users up to 2.3.3 and system build 4.5.588. This is newer than the one that was leaked a couple weeks ago and bring several more than minor updates and fixes. Speed, smoothness and the latest and greatest from Mountain View are yours for the taking! Just head on over to MyDroidWorld for the downloads. P3droid has tweeted that he doesn’t know how long he can host these files before an expected C&D from Motorola. All the more reason to upgrade tonight, right? I’m actually considering upgrading to it myself. Yes I have a Droid 2, but we all know it’ll work at least 90% right? We’ll see. Hit up the links now while you still can! I’ll be posting an updated review and all the changes and tweaks I can find as soon as a version for the Droid 2 gets released.
P.S. Did I mention the best part? P3droid, Lord High Rooter, has already blessed with the gift of super user on this new leak! That’s right, not even a day’s wait folks! Everyone give a shout out to TBH and P3droid on Twitter.
Once again treating the Droid 2 like the stepchild of the family it is, the Droid X is first to get a true, official update OTA to Android 2.3.3. This update does appear to be at least somewhat different than what was leaked out just 2 weeks ago. The main difference many are jumping to conclusions about is a mysterious .jar file labeled “netflix”. Stipulations abound that perhaps Motorola got their licensing figured out and could enable Netflix on their already to market Droids. I for one hope that this isn’t something exclusive to the Droid X and does in fact make it’s way to the Droid 2. No OTA has been confirmed for the Droid 2, but I’m sure there’s a couple brave souls out there willing to SBF back to stock to try out. Apparently its not all Droid X’s getting the OTA, it’ll probably take a while to reach everyone. Not that anyone reading this will probably want to take the OTA till we can confirm it has been rooted. P3droid is currently running it on his Droid X, so I’m sure it won’t be too long before we have something to go on. His earliest tweets suggest this update patches a lot of security holes from the leaked ROM so we may be waiting quite a while. In the meantime, how’s everyone doing with the original GB leak? Still running it? Too lazy to downgrade back? Depending on how my day goes I may just flash back to 2.2 to see if I can get anything on my R2D2 unit. Once we get root, it’s gonna be hard to turn down that super smooth Gingerbread update if it has Netflix baked in. Can’t wait!
After nearly a dozen full wipes back to 2.2 stock, I finally have the deodexed leak of the new Gingerbread Blur ROM booting and functional on my Droid 2 R2D2. This is a big deal for me. Mostly because it means I’m not afraid to do a lot more mods, but I’m also working on getting more of those Star Wars goodies back on there to post on DroidForums.com.
UPDATE: Just like that it all goes to hell again. I would recommend not using the Anim Mod for Root app on the Gingerbread leaks. I’m not sure if it’s gingerbread or the leaks, there seems to be little concrete about these leaks’ compatibility, but this app certainly does not work. As soon as it applied the new animations (a framework-res.apk mod) after the reboot I had multiple force closes. Not a happy camper. Will update if I get this figured out. SO CLOSE
There ya have it! Title says it better than anything, the Gingerbread that had been leaked is now not only rooted but also deodexed. There are many reasons to want a deodexed ROM most notably a slight speed improvement and easier customization of certain system files, but if you want to learn a little more about what exactly it is and why you should want it I’ve posted a pretty handy link down below. I’ll probably be doing a post later toady with my impressions but I’m trying to still get a video walk through done for this rooted one. Ha. P3droid is moving too fast!!!!
