I felt a little bad about blogging about Chrome’s new browser beta without mentioning the latest and greatest from Mozilla’s labs. Having been a convert from FireFox to Chrome originally (and mandating that FireFox replace Internet Explorer on all my family’s computers) it was a little weird going back to it. This is going to be an independent review of FireFox 4 so I will try to restrain myself from making comparisons to other browsers here. This review will also be based on my gaming rig setup with AMD Phenom II X4 at 3.2ghz processor, 4GB RAM, Nvidia 9800GT and Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I may do a separate post at another time with the Linux version. I will bring some references to my experience on my laptop as well. Its specs are AMD Athlon II X2 at 2.2ghz, 3GB RAM, ATI Radeon 4200 and Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit.
Having last used FireFox 3.6 and not tried any of the betas of FireFox 4 loading it up for the first time was quite jarring. It looks nothing like the FireFox I’d grown to love on my old Linux boxes. Calling it streamlined and minimalist are all just other ways of saying it takes some pretty heavy cues from Google’s Chrome internet browser.
